View Winners Here: http://www.stargatefanawards.com/2007/winners.php

We're sure many of you thought this day would never come -- some of the team were starting to wonder, too -- but we're finally ready to announce the winners of the 2007 Stargate Fan Awards!

That's right -- after compiling nearly 17,000 votes cast by over 3000 people for some 2500 nominations in a total of 276 categories -- we have the winners as chosen by you, the fans.

Head on over to http://www.stargatefanawards.com/2007 to see how your favorite authors, artists, vidders, and sites did this year. Select "2007 Winners" in the top navigation bar.

While you're there, don't forget to take a look at the winners of this year's Team Choice Awards which represent our team members' favorite works!

Congratulations to all the winners! Your banners will be ready within the week, so be sure to check back.

The awards team members would like to extend a warm thank you to everyone who participated -- nominators, nominees, and voters alike -- for so graciously dealing with our unexpected (and numerous!) delays this year as we improved our system and struggled through real life issues. We know it was as frustrating for you as it was for us. We truly appreciate the words of support and encouragement that we received along the way from you. We hope that it's been worth the wait!

In order to get back on track with the awards, we will begin accepting 2008 nominations within the next few weeks! Start gathering your favorite fan works from throughout the Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis fandom!

Thanks for your support, and don't forget to get those 2008 nominations ready!

Stargate Fan Awards Technical Briefing [24 Jan 2008|01:13pm]
Does that sound sufficiently important? :-)

Seriously, though, there are quite a few folks having a weird technical
problem getting the voting site to load completely. I'm going to pass on
the fix here and ask (um, *beg*??) everyone to spread the word.

If you go to the voting page and get a blank page or just the banner
across the top, try this:

clear your cache
clear your cookies
delete your temporary internet files
close your browser
open your browser
go to http://www.stargate fanawards. com/2007/ index.php
register or log in (as appropriate)

If it still won't load completely, hit a control f5 to try and force your
browser to go back to our server for the page data rather than to wherever
it's trying, and failing, to get it.

Also, if you go to what you think is the right page, but the only login is
labeled "Admin login" you're on the wrong page. ;-) See link above.

Thanks folks!

2007 Stargate Fan Awards Voting Open! [21 Jan 2008|02:47am]
[permission to forward]

It's finally time! Voting is now open for the Stargate Fan Awards. You
can vote for your favorites until March 3, 2008 at
http://www.stargatefanawards.com/2007/index.php .

Yes, we're a little – okay, a lot – behind schedule, but we think the
delay is worth it and we believe you'll appreciate the final product,
too.

As in the past, anyone can view the nominated works, however, in order
to vote, you must create an account and log in. You can register for
an account at http://www.stargatefanawards.com/2007/captcha.php .

NOTE: You may already have an account on our main site if you
nominated works or have created an account there. Unfortunately, you
MUST create a new account on our voting site. Only this year's
nominees have current accounts and they can log in using their existing
account information. We apologize for this inconvenience and hope to
fix this issue before the next awards' year.

Your account will keep track of your votes. You may log in at any time
to see in what categories and for whom you have voted. Not only that
but, should you change your mind, you can modify your votes as many
times as you wish up until the closing date of March 3, 2008. Please
rest assured that we will not divulge your email address to anyone.
We adhere to a strict privacy policy.

For nominees, we have a special icon that you can place next to your
nominated work(s) on any website to let folks know that you are
nominated for an award. We will have these icons available within the
next few days. Please check the home page at
http://www.stargatefanawards.com/2007/index.php . We'll let you know
when we post these icons.

This year, we have nearly 2400 nominations, embracing the SG-1 and
Atlantis fandoms and encompassing both fan fiction and multimedia. So,
if you're ready to settle down to read fan fiction, view fan art, or
sit back and watch fan music videos, then head on over to
http://www.stargatefanawards.com/2007/index.php .

We wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of you for your ongoing
patience and support. As always, it's been quite a learning curve for
all of the team.

Best of luck to the nominees and happy voting!

Final Reminder [13 Sep 2007|09:57am]
This is a final reminder to all the nominees. Placement ends at midnight tonight so if you haven't finished putting your nominations into their cats and subcats, please do so now.

Remember to check and make sure you placed them in the lowest possible subcat, alot of people are missing these. They should look like this:

SG1 Fan Fiction
Gen
Duets
Daniel/Teal'c
Humor

SGA Multimedia
Art
Photobased
Still Icon
Character
Teyla
Scene

Also, make sure you only have one nomination per subcategory. You can't have 3 Sam/Jack Angst fics, or 2 Sheppard Wallpapers. You need to either move them to a different subcat or you need to delete them. It's one nomination per author per subcat.

And double check (especially you multimedia folks) that the URL links you are giving us are to ONLY the nominated item, no index pages are allowed (folks shouldn't have to look through 50 icons to find the one nominated).

If anyone has any questions about anything: placement, cats, noms, second choice options, etc. Please email multimedia@stargatefanawards.com , fanfiction@stargatefanawards.com , web@stargatefanawards.com , or post below and I'll be happy to help.

Spam Folders Attack The Stargate Fan Awards! [30 Aug 2007|07:54am]
If you're a Fanfic writer or Multimedia artist, please
check your spam folders! We sent out Notifications and Reminders that
they were nominated for the Stargate Fan Awards and that they needed to
place their nominations, but we have become aware that some are finding
their way into Spam folders and are going unnoticed. We don't want to
miss anyone!

If you discover a Reminder email in your spam folder but don't have the first email with your account name and password, email out tech department web@stargatefanawards.com and they can resend your password. Make sure you supply them with all your pen names so they can find you.

Edit: I'm going to be heading off to DragonCon in the morning so I won't be around to look up names. If you _think_ you might have been nominated, please email web@stargatefanawards.com and they can look you up and if you have been they can find your password so you can place your noms.

Nominee's Place Your Nomination! [25 Aug 2007|03:02pm]
This is a reminder to any of our Nominee's who have not yet placed their nominated works. You have until Sept 3rd to place them before they are disqualified. So far we only have 2100 of the 4500 nominations placed so you procrastinators out there... get a move on!

If anybody has friends who were nominated, you might want to remind them to place their nominations, I know how easy it is to forget to do stuff and then it'll be too late.

Attention Stargate Fans,

There are only a couple more weeks left to submit your nominations for the 2007 SG Fan Awards. The absolute cut off date for accepting nominations will be Sunday May 20th at 11:59 PM CST, so don’t delay. Submit your nominations and make sure the authors and artists that you enjoy receive the recognition they deserve for their work.

Remember, to submit nominations you must apply for a password. Once you have your password you may submit as many nominations as you’d like. Please do take a moment to read the rules and regs while you are there. If you are an AOL user please contact us directly about obtaining a password. (see news item about registering)

Keep in mind for your nominations to go forward you must have 1) the url, 2) title of work, 3) author/artist’s name, and 4) please include the author/artist’s e-mail if possible so that the team can contact them. If we can’t contact the author or artist then their work cannot be included.

They will be open from April 9, 2007 and remain open until May 20, 2007. This includes both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis.

Once you are registered, browse through our "Site Directory". You can find a link in the top navigation bar. Here, you will find the main portion of the site's content including descriptions and definitions for the 2007 genres, categories, and subcategories. Also, be sure to read over the "Changes for 2007", our rules, and other nominating information.

Don't forget to signup for our newsletter again. Even if you signed up last year, you must sign up again to keep receiving newsletters during 2007. We promise to do a better job of issuing newsletters this year!

We've tried to place all important links in our top navigation bar. You'll find links to our 2001-2006 archives, our Live Journal, and others.

Don't forget to add our Live Journal to your "friends' list"!

Start nominating today! You must signup for an account on our site to nominate! Once you do, just click the "Nominate Now!" link in the top navigation bar to view the nomination submission form. You can only put one nomination per form this year but you can nominate as many times as you'd like!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the team at sgfa_team@yahoo.com. For technical issues, please contact our webmaster directly at web@stargatefanawards.com.

Help Wanted! Stargate Fan Awards Team [30 Jan 2007|08:52pm]
[Permission to forward]

We are looking for motivated people to join the Stargate Fan Awards team for 2007.

Being on the team is hard work as we spend a lot of time discussing the Awards. Nominations have to be processed, voting forms made up, and ballots reviewed by the security team. This is a time consuming process and needs to be done in a timely fashion. We have to communicate with those taking part in the awards - answering questions about the rules, working with authors etc. - and we have to work to a fairly tight schedule.

If you are interested in joining the team, please read the list of requirements below and consider carefully before contacting us.

**************************************************
Requirements for the Stargate Fan Awards Team:

* You must be age 18 or over.

The Awards cover all types of fiction (and other creative works) which include adult material. While the team is organized so that members who dislike adult material won't have to deal with a lot of it, everyone on the team has to accept that they may have to read an occasional fic or look at images outside their preferences.

* Dedication.

Being on the team has a certain level of commitment. Each one of us will have jobs or assignments and, while we can totally understand if real life intrudes, someone not pulling their weight does make it much harder on all. If you need some time off, no problem. Just let us know so we can take steps to accommodate your plans. And it's *very* important to have *daily* Net access.

* Impartiality:

Plainly put, politics stay at the door. We all have our preferences. We're just not going to argue them. If you are asked to make a decision on a fic or how we deal with an author, you need to set your preferences aside and strive to be as impartial as possible.

* Confidentiality:

We discuss a lot of details on the team's private mailing list and on the forum. We have access to information from who self-nommed to an author's real name. This information is strictly confidential and not to be discussed outside of the list.

* Participation:

There can be no lurking. Everyone has a voice and should use it! We try to run the team as a democracy. A democracy needs participation. We agree, we disagree, and the list is the place to do that. In public you back up the list policy. If the team makes a decision, we do ask you to support it in public. If you disagree, the list is the place to disagree.

* Reliable Net Connection & some knowledge of Excel:

You *must* have a reliable Net connection, or be able to access one if needed, and you must be able to handle simple Excel spreadsheets as well as navigate a message board for the forum.

Things we don't do:
---------------------------

* Judge

We compile nominations, we sort through them according to a published set of rules, and we count votes. The decisions are made by the fans, not by us. We aren't literary critics.

* Vote

Team members may nominate, but not vote. The only time the team votes is if any category is tied. When that happens each team member will cast a vote.

* Argue in public

We disagree frequently in private. But once the team decides on the party line, everyone is expected to support it, or at least remain silent on the issue.

Once again, to be very clear, this position does take up a lot of time and can be stressful. We get a lot of thanks for it which is wonderful, but we also take a lot criticism.

***********************************
We are looking to fill several spots in various areas of the fandom but are especially in need of team members with a strong interest in both SG-1 and SGA gen and femslash at this time. We are also looking for representation from smaller interest groups like the Tok'Ra and the special needs listed below:

* Special Skills Needed *

Although we are looking to fill several spots in various areas on the team, we have a special need for some individuals with the following skills:
- Website Design
- MySQL Databases
- Graphics Design

If you don't have time to be a full-time team member, we may allow "ad hoc" members to help with graphics design and other technical issues that may arise. Please let us know in your application if you prefer to participate as an "ad hoc" or occasional team member. You will still be required to abide by the confidentiality statement above.

So, still interested? We'd love to hear from you!

Please take a few moments to complete the questions below and submit them by February 10, 2007 to sgfa_team@yahoo.com.

2007 Team Application Questionnaire
------------------------------------------------------
We will review each applicant before making a decision. Because we are a team, we all have to be able to work together so, for those on the team who don't know you, there are a few questions we need to ask.

1. Do you read Stargate SG-1/Atlantis fan fiction? What kind of stories do you like: Gen, Ship, Slash, Femslash, Multiples? Please be specific. Give us some titles and authors of stories that you enjoy reading.

2. Do you watch vids or view art? What sites and genres do you prefer? Please be specific. Give us some titles and artists of your favorite works.

3. Are you a member of any SG-1/SGA mailing lists, LJ accounts, message boards, etc? If yes, which ones and what are your online name(s)?

4. What can you bring to the team? Do you have any special skills like graphics design? What other skills do you have that may be invaluable to the team?

5. What is your availability to help out? When do you have time to read and respond to emails? How much time can you devote to the team per day? Per week?

6. We have some critical dates during the summer where all team members are needed. Do you have any vacation plans in May, June, or October? Do you have any school or other issues that may require a lot of your time?

Please send your responses to sgfa_team@yahoo.com no later than February 10, 2007. We'll review your answers and get back to you by February 18, 2007 You can also contact the team at this address if you have additional questions that have not been addressed.

Thanks again for your interest in the team!

[ Permission to forward to anyone or any group that might be interested!]

Drumroll please....

View Winners Here: http://www.stargatefanawards/eFic/winners.php

We're sure many of you thought this day would never come -- some of the
team were starting to wonder, too -- but we're finally ready to
announce the winners of the 2006 Stargate Fan Awards!

That's right -- after compiling nearly 25 000 votes cast by over 3000
people for some 2500 nominations in a total of 201 categories -- we have
the winners as chosen by you, the fans.
Head on over to http://www.stargatefanawards/eFic/ to see how your
favourite authors, artists, vidders, and sites did this year. Select "2006
Winners" in the top navigation bar.

While you're there, don't forget to take a look at the winners of this
year's Seven Chevrons and Eight Chevrons Awards, honouring the best of
the best in music videos. You'll also find the Team Choice Awards
which represent the awards' team members' favourite works, none of which
have won in any other categories.

Congratulations to all the winners! Your banners will be ready within
the week, so be sure to check back. We will also contact winners via
email to tell them when their banner becomes available.

The awards team members would like to extend a warm thank you to
everyone who participated -- nominators, nominees, and voters alike -- for so graciously dealing with our unexpected (and numerous!) delays this year
as we implemented our new system. We know it was as frustrating for
you as it was for us. We truly appreciate the words of support and
encouragement that we received along the way from you, the fans. We hope
that the new design has been worth the wait!

In the next couple of weeks, we will post our annual feedback survey on
the site and via email messages. Please complete the survey and let us
know your thoughts so we can improve the awards for next year!

Thanks for your support, and we look forward to seeing you all again
next year!

The Awards Team
http://www.stargatefanawards.com/

P.S. For the first time since its inception, the Stargate Fan Awards
will begin accepting donations via Paypal to help defray the costs
required to run and maintain our huge database of award-winning Stargate fan works. If you have enjoyed the awards and would like to see them
continue, please find the Paypal donation button on our site. We will only
accept enough donations to cover the awards site needs. Should
donations received exceed our monetary requirements, we will remove the Paypal buttons. We are a completely non-profit, volunteer-run organization.

Voting Is Now Open!!! [11 Aug 2006|09:20am]
It's finally time! The Stargate Fan Awards are now open for voting.

Yes, we're a little – okay, a lot – behind schedule, but we think the delay was worth it and we believe you'll appreciate the final product too. This year, we're very excited to have a brand new voting structure to go along with our new nomination system.

As in the past, all nominated works are viewable to anyone who would like to look at the creations of the many talented authors and artists. The big change comes in the form of voting: we now require anyone who wishes to vote to first create an account and log in.

This new system addresses a concern that many of you, the fans, have expressed in the past. Your account will keep track of any and all votes that you have cast for the Stargate Fan Awards so that you may log in at any time to see in what categories and for whom you have voted. Not only that, but should you change your mind, you can modify your vote at any point up until the closing date of Sunday, September 24, 2006.

Authors and artists who have created an account previously in order to place their nominations can – and should! – use their existing accounts.

We *strongly* recommend that everyone read the voting rules http://www.stargatefanawards.com/eFic/rules.php> before creating their accounts. The team does not consider "Oh, I didn't know about that" a viable excuse and we'd hate for anyone's works or votes to be disqualified due to a violation of a plainly stated rule.

Also new this year: for nominees, there is a special icon you can place next to your nominated work(s). You'll find it on the SGFA eFic page.

This year, we have nearly 2500 eligible nominations, embracing the SG-1 and Atlantis fandoms and encompassing fic and multimedia. So if you're ready to settle in to read fanfic, click your way through fan art, and sit back to watch fan music videos, then head on over to
http://www.stargatefanawards.com/eFic/ where you will find links to the nominations and be able to create your account.

If you have any questions, check out our FAQ page, found here: http://www.stargatefanawards.com/eFic/faq.php

Or, you can email us. Check out our contact page here http://www.stargatefanawards.com/eFic/contact_email.php in order to find the "department" you need, and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

We wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone for their ongoing patience and support; it's been quite a learning curve for all of us and our webmistress, Kelly, was unable to rely on the rest of the technologically inept team for much help in coding. :) Thank you, Kelly, for all your hard work!

Best of luck to the nominees, and happy voting!

Update [12 Jul 2006|09:10pm]
As many of you know, Heliopolis is having server issues and has had to make an emergency change. Since many of our nominees have their works linked to Heliopolis, we are delaying the announcement until July 21 to give Heliopolis a chance to return to service. We want to ensure that all of our nominees receive an equal opportunity.

This delay is only about a week later than we'd originally scheduled to open the voting. Now, we'll be able to let fans vote as soon as we announce the nominees without needing a short down time ourselves to upload the code necessary for voting. So, really, it'll be better for everyone in the long run!

Many thanks for all the help and patient understanding from the nominees!

Below is a tentative calendar of events for the next phases of the awards. We will do our best to keep on schedule but, as always, circumstances beyond our control may affect these dates. You never know when SG-1 might decide to mess with our time lines again.

July 21: Nominees announced and posted on website.
July 21 - Aug 30 (tentative date): Time for fans to judge the posted nominees and vote for their favorites. We are hoping to allow reading and voting to take place simultaneously this year.
August 30 (tentative date): Voting closes. Awards team tallies votes and prepares to announce winners.
September 15 (tentative date): Winners announced and posted on website.

Get Ready [17 Feb 2006|12:50pm]
We've started this LJ to keep our participating Stargate fans in the LJ community updated on what's happening with the Awards. While it is a new endeavor for us and this journal is still under construction, we will be posting announcements and updates as the Awards processes are starting very soon! Friend us or keep an eye on your LJ communities so you don't miss out on nominating all of those worthy fan works you've all undoubtedly been sharing here on LJ or elsewhere on the 'net.
