Stargate Fan Awards Nominations OPEN!
[Permission to forward]

Attention Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis fans:

It's time once again to bring recognition to the best stories and storytellers, the best artists, and the best vidders in the fandom. Nominations for the 2007 Stargate Fan Awards are now open. They will be open from April 9, 2007 and remain open until May 20, 2007. This includes both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis.

We've made a few changes to the site. Check us out to see what we've done. You'll be surprised.

http://www.stargatefanawards.com

First of all, sign up for an account! You will need to be registered as an account holder in order to submit nominations and vote. It's easy! Don't try to use an old login account from last year...it won't work.

Once you are registered, browse through our "Site Directory". You can find a link in the top navigation bar. Here, you will find the main portion of the site's content including descriptions and definitions for the 2007 genres, categories, and subcategories. Also, be sure to read over the "Changes for 2007", our rules, and other nominating information.

Don't forget to signup for our newsletter again. Even if you signed up last year, you must sign up again to keep receiving newsletters during 2007. We promise to do a better job of issuing newsletters this year!

We've tried to place all important links in our top navigation bar. You'll find links to our 2001-2006 archives, our Live Journal, and others.

Don't forget to add our Live Journal to your "friends' list"!

Start nominating today! You must signup for an account on our site to nominate! Once you do, just click the "Nominate Now!" link in the top navigation bar to view the nomination submission form. You can only put one nomination per form this year but you can nominate as many times as you'd like!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the team at sgfa_team@yahoo.com. For technical issues, please contact our webmaster directly at web@stargatefanawards.com.

Start nominating the "best of the best" now!

Yours,
The 2007 Stargate Fan Awards Team

"Recognizing, celebrating, and enjoying the creativity of the Stargate fandom!"

It is a wonderful thing you are doing with these awards. From a purely selfish perspective, I know that I have found them a never failing source of good fiction. I do have a question or two, though. How do you nominate a writer for best writer as that is an awards category in previous years? Or is that a function of the number of votes received for each author and story? Come to think on it, that would be an effective way to come up with that award.

Have you considered allowing the nominator to make a comment of short length - maybe 30 words or less - about the story they nominate? For example:

Sholio's Longest Mile. In the aftermath of "Sunday," Sheppard shows that reticence can be a strength. (See above as to finding good fiction through the awards' list. :-)

Thank you for all the time and effort you put in on this project.

Thanks for the kind words, Susnn.

You are correct that we use overall number of votes received for all works by an author to award "Best Author". Likewise, "Best Story" is determined by the work with the highest number of votes for it across all of the categories within the genre. IOW, we award a "Best Story" within slash, ship, gen.

Most nominators want to get in fast and get out fast. I'm not sure how many would actually pause long enough to submit a comment. Heck, most of the time, we can't even get an author/artist email out of them :) Also, our concern is that it could be a bit biasing. Of course, the nominator likes the story; that's why they nominated it. We might, however, be able to allow the author/artist to submit a summary of the work when they place it in a category, though. We'll have to discuss this a bit.

We have a super good team this year and we are looking forward to a wonderful (and busy) awards season!

You've probably already discovered this, but yes, only completed works can be nominated.

This probably isn't the right place for this, but I'm having difficulties registering. Unfortunately when I try "contact us" to ask about the problem it won't let me do it because I'm not logged on (which I can't do until I register, of course :) ). Is there another way I can contact you?

I will check back here for an answer. Thanks!

How do we go about getting our award from last year. I never go mine. I won a Team Choice but never say the actual award.

The nomination phase is closed now, but if you want to sign up in preparation for the voting phase (which is in probably 6-8 weeks) you'll want to email our web mistress, I'm not up on the techie side of things. Try web@stargatefanawards.com and they can help you with your log in issues.
